House Project

So I have been busy this past week with a project for the house. I have been changing the inside doors from the mid-western brown (or as I call it, the sick baby poop color) to what is technically called Parchment Paper (or commonly called cream). I also painted the walls in the hallway a beautiful tan color. I did one door as a test project to see if we would like it, and we did! I had originally planned to do just the upstairs doors, but Nathan liked them so much that he asked if I would also do the downstairs doors where his room is. So when I finish the upstairs (a total of 5 doors, one of which was the test project), then I will work on the downstairs - with the kids help, of course! Michael has been a tremendous help with this project. He sanded down 4 of the door jams and door trim for me so I could come and paint it quickly. It took him 1/2 a day to sand all the trim and jams. It tool me one whole day to paint the trim and door jams. Tomorrow, we will tackle the doors. Below you will find pictures of what the doors currently look like, the halfway point, and the finished project. The last thing I will do is change the brass door knobs to something a bit more modern.

Finished project!!! Pretty, pretty!

School Starting

As the school start date approaches, we find ourselves emerged in school sports. Nathan is now the proud owner of a driver's license so he drives himself to and from practice. That is a HUGE relief for me. He made the varsity soccer team this year so he practices later and longer than the other teams.....4-6 pm. The fact that he can take care of himself is a huge weight off my shoulders. His first game is in 2 days! I am looking forward to watching him play and improve his skills this year. I have a feeling the coach is going to use him as a forward (offense) this year because of his speed. He will not like it, but that is the price you pay when you are the fastest kid on the team. :)

Michael decided to mix it up and joined the cross country team this year. His      practice is at 7:30 am. Yep, you read that right, 7:30 AM! He is up by 6, 6:30 at the latest so his body can wake up. He hates it when he runs poorly because he is not awake. He is doing a decent job of keeping up with the high schoolers       during practice and timed runs. They had a 3 mile timed run today and he ran it in 21+ minutes. Not bad for an 8th grader with only 4 weeks of summer            training. He was so excited that he beat 3 high school students! His goal is to make it on the JV team by the end of the season. I am sure he can do it if he keeps practicing as hard as he has been. It will be exciting to watch him run!
