Snow AGAIN!!

Here it is the 26th of April and we have snow on the ground!! It fell last night while we slept so we woke up to a surprise. Thankfully there is no soccer game today I just found out that both were canceled. I would really hate to stand out in that cold weather and coach it! (Of course it is all about me, we won't sympathize with the kids having to play in the snow.)

About that last post, I probably shouldn't bag on the town, it doesn't really help the adjustment process.

Weird Town

I will propose this question... What kind of bank DOES NOT want you to put your money into it?

Well, the local bank that we have here doesn't want our money. Every time we move, we open a local banking account. Usually it is a savings account, it is just easier to cash checks and pay local bills out of it. So we opened an account at one of the local banks (which will remain nameless) but we made sure that it was a national bank so if we traveled out of the state, then we could still get money out of it if necessary. Recently we sold the last house that we inherited from Barry's Grandmother. Since we didn't have a loan on it, the proceeds came to us in the form of a check. This check needed to be deposited into an account. I was hesitant to sign it and send it to our normal bank in the mail, so I choose to deposit it into the local one. Big mistake on my part. When I went to deposit it, they had to get "special permission" from the bank manager to put it into our account. Then they wanted to know if I was going to leave it there because it was (and I quote) "To much money for this account." Yea, this bank is great! (I say sarcastically.) It wasn't all that much money to start with, it is just the principal of it all. Who doesn't want you to put money into their bank. That is the point of a bank!!!

One Boring Day

Here's my exciting day. I went and got my hair cut. Yea!! Then the other house we had sold last week so I put the money from that into the bank. Yea!! I'm not celebrating to much. Most of that money will go towards the loan on this house. We are saving a little bit out so we can replace the windows in this house. They are so drafty that all the heat leaves in the winter. When we finally get that done, then we will be able to have a warm house (or a cool one in the summer)! Speaking of changing seasons, I think that we are finally going to be getting nicer weather. We are in the 70's today with only a few rain showers predicted for later in the week. I'm sure that you all can tell that I am bored. I'm constantly talking about the weather!

Registration/Orientation

Well yesterday was the big day. I had my orientation followed by registration at Minnesota State University, Mankato - MNSUM for short. Boy did I feel ancient!! At 32 years young, I felt like I was the oldest person in the room. It couldn't possibly be so!! (I say with a wink.) SO the day started with all of us sitting in this huge auditorium listening to a wonderful public speaker introduce herself and what the purpose of today was and what exactly we were going to hear. Then she turned the mike over to the first speaker and we all but fell asleep. After 30 minutes of straining to hear him and understand what he was trying to say, he turned the mike over to another person who knew how to speak in public. He was loud, energetic and funny. Unfortunately he wasn't telling us anything that was of great importance. The people that needed to be heard, couldn't. I think that is pretty typical with public speaking. The people with important information never speak loud enough to be heard by the people in the front row, much less the back. Finally we break for lunch. During lunch, I got my college ID card, ate lunch and found the next room that we were supposed to be in. Of all the people there, half that were supposed to be in my room were late or those that were in my room were in the wrong room. How can that be?? We made our class schedules after lunch. Mine turned out to be mostly classes that I need for prerequisites for the College of Education. So this semester I am taking art, health, public speaking, multicultural studies, and 2 early education classes. So far only 2 of my classes require books. Yea!!

Report Cards

The boys' report cards came out last week. I was really pleased with their progress and what the teachers had to say about them. They are both adjusting ot their new schools. Michael is happy that nobody knows his brother at the new school. This way, he is never in Nathan's shadow. Nathan is happy that is isn't in the same school as Michael. This way, he gets to feel like he is important and never has to see Michael at school. Not that they don't get along, but they don't get along.

I am thinking that spring is almost here!! It is considerably warmer that it has been in the last couple of days and we are all happy about that.

Snowfall

For all of you experiencing spring conditions, I AM JEALOUS!! Yesterday we had snowfall! The boys were dismissed from school early because of road conditions. They were so happy and excited to get out of school early. Michael was home at 10:40. Nathan's bus had a considerably harder time on the roads, he didn't make it home until 11:45. That's a huge time difference seeing as they both got out at 10:20. The total snowfall amount on my deck was 7.5 inches in 24 hours, but most of it fell yesterday between 8 am and 7 pm. It was the type of snow that is great for snowballs and snowmen because it is wet and heavy. It is terrible snow if you are trying to shovel it because it weighs a TON!! Barry is off at school in SC and was amazed that it snowed here. He is after all experiencing 80 degree weather there. Here's hoping that spring will come sooner than later.
